Connect to Vonage to send SMS messages

Vonage Integration

The Vonage integration enables you to send SMS messages globally using the Vonage Messages API.

How to get credentials

You need an API Key and API Secret from your Vonage account.

  1. Log in to your Vonage API Dashboard (dashboard.nexmo.com).
  2. On the main dashboard page, you will find your API Key and API Secret at the top.
  3. In Nodes2Cloud, create a new Vonage credential and paste both the API Key and API Secret.

1. Vonage: Send SMS

What the node does

This node sends an SMS text message to a specified phone number.

Options / Fields

  • Credential: Your Vonage API key and secret.
  • To: The destination phone number in E.164 format (e.g., 15550100999). Do not include the + sign.
  • From: The sender ID. This can be a Vonage virtual number you own or an approved alphanumeric sender ID (e.g., MyCompany).
  • Message Text: The content of the SMS you want to send.
  • Delivery Receipt Webhook URL: (Optional) Overrides the default webhook URL where Vonage sends delivery status updates for this specific message.
  • Client Reference: (Optional) A custom string you provide that Vonage will echo back in delivery receipts, useful for tracking.
  • Account Reference: (Optional) A tag used for grouping billing accounts.
  • Validity (ms): (Optional) The time-to-live (TTL) of the message in milliseconds. If the message isn't delivered within this time, it expires.
  • Message Class: (Optional) The DCS message class (0-3). Leave blank to use Vonage's default.

How to set it up

  1. Select your Vonage Credential.
  2. Enter the destination number in the To field (remembering to include the country code).
  3. Enter your assigned Vonage number or sender ID in the From field.
  4. Compose your message in the Message Text field.
  5. The output will be the raw Vonage response containing the message_uuid which you can use to track delivery.

Common Troubleshooting

  • Message fails to send (Invalid 'To' number): Ensure the phone number is correctly formatted without spaces, dashes, or a leading + (e.g. 14155552671 for US).
  • Sender ID not supported: Some countries heavily restrict alphanumeric sender IDs. If your message fails when using a name (like "MyCompany") in the From field, try using a standard Vonage virtual number instead.
  • Authentication Error: Verify that you copied the API Secret correctly. Sometimes trailing spaces can accidentally be copied from the dashboard.
