Automate Intercom contacts and companies

Intercom Integration

The Intercom integration allows you to automate the management of your users (contacts) and companies within your Intercom workspace.

How to get credentials

Intercom uses a Personal Access Token.

  1. Go to the Intercom Developer Hub.
  2. Create a new App in your workspace.
  3. Once the app is created, go to the Configure → Authentication section.
  4. Copy the Access Token.
  5. Ensure your app has the required permissions for Contacts and Companies.
  6. In Nodes2Cloud, create a new Intercom credential and paste the token.

1. Contact Operations

Available Actions

  • Contact: Create: Creates a new user/lead.
  • Contact: Get: Retrieves a single contact by their ID.
  • Contact: List: Lists multiple contacts.
  • Contact: Search: Searches for contacts matching specific criteria.
  • Contact: Delete: Removes a contact from Intercom.
  • Contact: Merge: Merges two contacts together (e.g., a lead into a user).

Common Fields

  • Role: Specify if the contact is a user or a lead.
  • Email: The email address of the contact.
  • External ID: A unique identifier from your own database to sync with Intercom.
  • Name: The full name of the contact.
  • Custom Attributes (JSON): A JSON object containing any custom data attributes you want to assign to the user.

2. Company Operations

Available Actions

  • Company: Create: Creates a new company record in Intercom.

Common Fields

  • Company ID: The unique identifier for the company (from your own database).
  • Name: The name of the company.
  • Custom Attributes (JSON): Any custom data attributes associated with the company.

Common Troubleshooting

  • 401 Unauthorized: Ensure you copied the full Access Token from the Intercom Developer Hub and that your app is installed in the correct workspace.
  • Contact Not Updating: If you are trying to update an existing contact but they aren't changing, ensure you are providing the exact Email or External ID that matches their current record in Intercom. Intercom uses these fields for deduplication/upserting.
